1 and 2:
One
drink of alcohol is considered to be: One 12-ounce beer,
5 ounces of wine or 1 ounce of liquor.
Based
on current research regarding the long-term effects
of alcohol use on health, the following guidelines
were developed:
In
males, no more than 1 - 2 drinks a day,
or no more than 14 drinks total in a week, and in females
or all adults over the age of 60*, no more than
1 drink a day, or more than 7 drinks total in a week,

is not unhealthy, and may have some benefits
to ones heart.
- Five
or more drinks on any drinking occasion is considered
unhealthy and risky drinking.
- More
than 14 drinks (male) or 7 drinks (female/older adult)
in an average week has significant detrimental health
consequences over time.
- How
much someone drinks is not necessarily a determinant
of whether drinking is a problem.
* women and older adults have less total body water
and greater body organ sensitivity to the effects of
alcohol.

If
you answered yes to one of these
questions, you need to take a serious look at your drinking.
It may be a problem.
If
you answered yes to two or more
of these questions, it is likely your drinking has already
become a problem. It would be a good idea to talk to
someone about it.

If
you answered yes or if your drinking has made
someone you care about cry, you probably ought to seek
help. This is a sure sign of a drinking problem.
